The Black Sea which links Asia and Europe has also a relation with the Mediterranean sea. Being a center of in this crossroads a lot of political, economical and cultural events have been happening and because of this all the important powers have wanted to control this area.
Trabzon Port is on the east of the Black Sea and geographically it extends to Van lake and Urmiye lake, that is to say it extends to East Anatolia and South Azerbaijan so it is the exit of this extensive region.
The silk road that was the bridge between the east and the west in the past. And its branch was on Tebriz-Erzurum-Trabzon route.
This route not only linked up the Black sea and East Anatolia to the Caucasus and North Iran but also it linked the trade road of the far east and Istanbul or Central Europe through Trabzon Port.
In other word, Trabzon Port was, besides its natural connection between East Anatolia and North Iran, periodically connected with Central Europe, Caucasus, Caspian area, Afganistan and Pakistan.
Today, USA wants to use Trabzon as a base of controlling transportation route and energy source, so Trabzon port has become more important especially in political and strategical aspect.
