In recent years, big data has emerged as a frequently mentioned phenomenon. In our country, especially in the academic field, studies on big data gained momentum in recent years. In this study, 375 master's and doctoral theses in the field of big data in the National Thesis Center of Higher Education Council between 1990 and 2018 were chosen as research subject. In this study, bibliometric analysis of the theses are conducted, and the distribution of the topics, universities where they are conducted, the distribution of the departments, thesis languages, advisors and the distribution of the keywords are reported. According to the findings, it was seen that the number of researches at the masters level were higher than the doctoral level researches. When the distribution of theses according to years is examined, it is seen that there are limited number of studies in the early 1990s. It is observed that the year 2003 started to gain momentum and the biggest increase was in 2018. With this result, it can be said that the number of studies on Big Data will increase in the years to come. It was determined that the studies were carried out in 73 different institutions. Among the institutions, state universities are in the majority. In the list of institute ranking the Institute of Science took the first place although the second place is the Social Sciences. This shows that big data began to become widespread in the field of social sciences and this is important to show the interdisciplinary structure of big data. Computer Engineering Department has the first place among the departments which constitute the subject of theses. The second place in the Industrial Engineering Department is followed by the Department of Business Administration and Statistics. In this distribution, similar to the distribution of institutes, it is seen that the studies in the Big Data area are spreading interdisciplinary. It is seen that the most of the thesis were published in Turkish and this is followed by the theses in English. It is believed that this unique study will contribute the monitoring of the development of graduate theses in the field of big data in Turkey.
