The image of woman has been an important subject of art since first ages. When we have a look at Turkish art of painting, it can be seen that the image of women has developed under the influence of European art movements. Painters of military origin, who were educated in schools belonging to Ottoman army or in Europe were the first artists to employ women image, though in a conservative way. In addition to being an image in painting, women were also practitioners of the art itself. The Ottoman Reform period was a time when mowen rights were handled, and though on a limited scale, woman identity was constructed. As a consequence, women began to have art education in Art School, where woman image in European fashion style, educated and Westers type appeared in painting. During the Republic era, both the image of urban woman image and Anatolian women, about whom the impression that they were equal to men was created, was handled in painting as the dissemination of modernity from rural to urban settings all over the community. In this study, the main aim is to determine the representation of woman image in art and specify what traces of the Balkans are present in art. In this regard, first of all, a literature study will be made since Ottoman period up to the present. Then, the portraits by Eren Eyüboğlu, who was born in Romania, will be analysed and the findings will be discussed.
