Although the concept of organizational commitment is important in all sectors, but it has more important for service businesses. Especially, the direct communication between the employee and the customer of tourism and hospitality businesses, reveals the importance of organizational commitment. The organizational commitment levels of the tourism businesses employees affect the success of the enterprises positively or negatively. Therefore, knowing the organizational commitment levels of the employees is beneficial for the enterprises.
This paper focuses on the relationships between organizational commitment and employee demographics. The research was conducted on 334 employees of three, four and five star hotels in Kahramanmaraş province. The data were obtained using the survey method between 15.11.2020-25.12.2020. Frequency, factor, t-test and one-way anova analysis were applied to the obtained data via SPSS. According to the results; Organizational commitment perceptions were higher among women than men. Organizational commitment decreases after the age of 48. There is an inverse relationship between education and income level and organizational commitment. Organizational commitment perceptions are higher in the food&beverage and housekeeping department.
The data obtained from this research show that; There are significant relationships between organizational commitment and demographic characteristics of employees. In addition, organizational commitment perceptions were higher or lower among some groups than other groups. First of all, these differences should be minimized. Especially tourism and hospitality businesses should focus on increasing the organizational commitment levels of all their staff in order to gain a sustainable competitive advantage. In this way, the targeted success can be achieved by increasing the service quality.
