DEATH CONCEPT AMONG GEORGIANS OF MEYDANCIK DISTRICT

Erdoğan ALTINKAYNAK

Meydancık district and the surrounding villages in Şavşat, Artvin city, are the settlements of Turkish citizens of Georgian origin. They are moslems. Folkloric research on the district and the settlers is very limited. In this study, we handle the topic of death during transition periods comparatively with the cases in different Anatolian settlements. The rituals and beliefs practiced by the Meydancık Georgians seem to be almost the same as those in various Anatolian communities due to the influence of the Islam religion.

Key Words: Meydancık, Death, Georgian, Mourning, Elegy, Funeral, Cemetery
