Abstract

This article examines the fundamental features of Pierre Bourdieu's sociology of culture, with a view to their potential contributions to the sociology of religion. According to Bourdieu, religion can be analyzed as a system of symbolic power, with characteristics similar to other cultural fields such as art, philosophy, science, or fashion. Bourdieu's approach to culture develops a political economy of symbolic practices, encompassing a theory of symbolic interests, a theory of cultural capital, and a theory of symbolic power.

TR Abstract
