THE CITIZENS OF BAKU AND 1915-1917SARIKAMISH SLAVES

We will never find out how many loses we had in the Battle of Sarikamish which lasted tw weeks between 22th of December 1914 and 5th of January 1915. In January the fifth when the war came to an end, 7200 soldiers were captured. In the Caucasian Front, the number was 15.000. The report about the number of Turk slaves in Russia which was prepared by Yusuf Akçura Hilal-i Ahmer Society for the Battle History committee puts forward that there were 60.000 Turk slaves, 20.000 - 30.000 in North-Caucasus and 30.000 in the other parts ofRussia. Soldiers and civilians captured by Russia were taken to special camps in Omsk, Tomsk, Irkutsk, Uralsk, Samara, Kazan, Nijniy, Novgorod, Harkov, Baku and other cities. This studys reveals the documents about the conditions of Turkish slaves taken to the camp in Nargin Island across the city of Baku, the funeral processes of the martyrs, the slaves being kidnapped from Nargin Island and their returning.
