THE THEME OF LOVE IN AHMET HAŞİM’S POEMS PARILTI AND KARANFİL

Vedi AŞKAROĞLU

Love is one of the commonest concepts worked on in almost all cultures throughout history, and the most frequently analysed theme in literary works. The theme of love is made a subject differently by different artists as a personal experience. However, it is generally dealt with either as a constructive, positive feeling or as agonizing, torturing experience with one-sided, courtly love characteristic. Ahmet Haşim works on the love theme in his two poems Parıltı and Karanfil, by combining it with fire and flame images and constructing an analogy between love and the connotations of fire. This analogous relationship makes it necessary to analyse the social, psychological and cultural connotations of the fire image. In this regard, analysis of fire (and so that of love) makes it possible to reveal inner impulses, creative potential, destructive dimension, and sexual drives associated with love.

Key words: love, fire, creativity, destructiveness, sexuality
