EGYPTIAN PERCEPTION OF ATATÜRK AND TURKISH REVOLUTION WITHIN THE CONTEXT OF TURKISH-EGYPTIAN RELATIONS (1919-1938)

After the foundation of Turkish Republic, the relations with Egypt having the traces of the Ottoman rule and having lived under the Ottoman rule from 1517 till 1882 started in 1925. Though the efforts put forth by the Turkish Republic to establish peaceful and good relations with Egypt in Atatürk era, great fluctuations were experienced in the relations. However, the people of Egypt where national movement emerged in the form of synthesis of Islamist modernist roots with the western-type movement enthusiastically observed the reform movements and modernization attempts in Turkey which were appreciated in most part ofthe world. The present study looks at the Egyptian perception of Atatürk and Turkish Revolution with in the context ofthe Turkish-Egyptian relations ofthe era.
